Missouri State to award 604 degrees during summer commencement
Missouri State University will confer 604 degrees to students at its 2015 summer commencement. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. July 31 at JQH Arena and will feature an address from Jennifer Moore, a journalist and writer based in West Plains. The ceremony will be streamed live.
The Missouri State commencement hub features student stories, social media posts, photos and other multimedia experiences that will be updated prior to and during commencement.
Five doctorate degrees among those to be conferred
A total of 310 bachelor’s degrees, 282 master’s degrees, seven specialist degrees and five doctorate degrees will be conferred. Beyond the standard expectations, 11 students will be recognized for their work with a more rigorous curriculum in Missouri State’s Honors College. Scholastic honors will be given to five students who will graduate summa cum laude (with grade point averages of 3.9-4.0 on a 4.0 scale), 10 who will graduate magna cum laude (with GPAs of 3.75-3.89) and 31 who will graduate cum laude (with GPAs of 3.5-3.74).
Award-winning journalist to address community involvement and giving
Moore graduated with honors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism before spending five years in the Persian Gulf region, where she worked as a freelance journalist for CNN-International, NPR, and the largest English daily newspaper in the region, The Gulf News.
After returning to the U.S. in 2007, she worked as a reporter, anchor and assignment editor for KSMU Radio, the NPR station in Springfield, Missouri, where she filed local and national stories on the rural Ozarks.
Over the course of her time at NPR, Moore’s stories received seven Edward R. Murrow awards, the “Excellence in Legal Journalism” award from The Missouri Bar and the 2014 Honorable Mention for the “Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Journalism” awarded by Syracuse University.
She recently left the field of daily journalism to pursue a career writing books, a graduate program at Missouri State and a job as the coordinator of theatre and events for MSU-West Plains.
Missouri State to award 1,501 degrees during fall commencement
Missouri State University will confer 1,501 degrees to students at its 2015 fall commencement. Two ceremonies will be held Dec. 11 at JQH Arena.
Students graduating from the colleges of Arts and Letters, Health and Human Services, Humanities and Public Affairs and Natural and Applied Sciences, as well as students from the William H. Darr School of Agriculture and global studies majors will participate in the first ceremony at 12:30 p.m. This ceremony will feature speaker Norm Shealy, longtime supporter of several Missouri
State colleges and programs.
Students graduating from the colleges of Business and Education will participate in the second ceremony at 4 p.m. This ceremony will feature speaker Mike Parson, Senator and supporter of Missouri State through the state legislature.

Two doctorate degrees among those to be conferred
A total of 1,072 bachelor’s degrees, 427 master’s degrees and two doctorate degrees will be conferred. Beyond the standard expectations, 46 students will be recognized for their work with a more rigorous curriculum in Missouri State’s Honors College.
Scholastic honors will be given to 33 students who will graduate summa cum laude (with grade point averages of 3.9-4.0 on a 4.0 scale), 55 who will graduate magna cum laude (with GPAs of 3.75-3.89) and 127 who will graduate cum laude (with GPAs of 3.5-3.74).

Missouri State University conferred 1,321 degrees to students at its 2015 fall commencement on Dec. 11 at JQH Arena.
Crunching the numbers
A total of 960 bachelor’s degrees, 360 master’s degrees, and one doctorate degree were conferred. Beyond the standard expectations, 37 students were recognized for their work with a more rigorous curriculum in Missouri State’s Honors College.
Scholastic honors were given to 30 students who graduated summa cum laude (with grade point average of 3.9-4.0 on a 4.0 scale), 61 who graduated magna cum laude (with a GPA of 3.75-3.89) and 123 who graduated cum laude (with a GPA of 3.5-3.74).
